Before we break for Summer, I want to give you a glimpse of what lies ahead and help you prepare, if you plan on leading a team next year.
In this month’s newsletter I want to first ask you to set some realistic expectations about your workload for next year and plan accordingly. Second, participants in my recent workshops have prepared a summer reading list for you. Lastly, I am really excited that PeerSphere is partnering with EARCOS to offer Middle Leadership Peer Learning Communities. These communities will be a great place for you to collaborate and solve meaningful problems with other leaders.
Set Realistic Expectations
In my most recent Middle Leadership workshops, Leading Effective Teams for New and Aspiring Leaders, a participant politely asked me during a break: “You keep reminding us about the extra 2-3 hours we must spend per week to ‘lead a team’. I now understand why I must work more to lead a team, but it would be great if we had a list of all these things so we can manage up more effectively.”
To help me answer this question, I asked the 112 people from both workshops: “Why does leading a team require 2-3 more hours per week?” Click here to read their responses as well as more about why I believe you need to spend 2-3 more hours per week to lead your team.
